About The Event

Join us for a 1.5  hour immersive workshop led by Dr. Sumanthri Samarawickrama, a senior lecturer at the University of Moratuwa and a leading authority on Sinhala typography. This unique experience invites participants to explore the art and history of Sinhala calligraphy—one of the rarest languages in the world.


Drawing on her extensive research, including the study of 18th-century calligraphy found in the murals of Karapitiya Temple, Dr. Samarawickrama will guide attendees through a step-by-step process to reconstruct traditional letterforms. This hands-on workshop will equip participants with practical skills, utilizing tracing sheets and manuals that encapsulate the essence of Sinhala calligraphy.


Open to only 10 participants, this workshop encourages individuals with a passion for calligraphy, design students, and educators interested in cultural preservation.
